Open a video, choose an audio file, and press Add audio: the sound goes over the picture and the result downloads as an MP4 that plays anywhere. The audio can be anything your browser can play, an MP3 or M4A song, a WAV or a voice memo, or the sound of another video. Choose whether it replaces the original sound, is mixed with it, or whether the video simply goes silent, set the two volumes, and the player on the page plays the mix as you adjust it, so you hear the result before you make it. The picture is not touched: the video frames are copied into the new file as they are, which is why a full-length 4K clip takes seconds rather than a re-encode.
Replace is the music-over-a-clip case, a song under a montage or a voice track over a screen recording where the room noise should go. Mix keeps the original and layers the new audio under it at the volume you set, which is how a narration sits over an interview or a quiet bed of music goes under a talking head; the Original sound slider brings the clip's own audio down to a whisper without losing it. Mute needs no audio file at all: it removes the sound from a video, for a clip that must go out silent. If the audio is shorter than the video, Repeat plays it again until the picture ends; if it is longer, it is cut where the video stops.
The new track is encoded as AAC in an MP4, the pair every phone, player and social platform expects, or as Opus in a WebM if you prefer. The video track is copied through without re-encoding wherever the container allows it, so the quality is exactly the original's and the file is ready in the time it takes to write it. Long videos are written straight to disk as they are made, so the length of a clip is not limited by memory.
