This free tool adds text to a GIF. Open the GIF, type the caption and press Add: the text lands near the bottom with handles around it - drag it to move, pull the corner to size it, swing the handle underneath to turn it, tap the red cross to remove it. With a line selected, the field edits its words live, the list picks the font, the swatch sets the colour and the switch adds or removes the black outline. Add as many lines as you need. The download paints them onto every frame of the animation with the frame timing and loop setting untouched.
Impact in white with a black outline is the classic meme look and the default. Georgia or Courier make a quieter caption; Comic Sans is there for the people who ask. The outline keeps the text readable over any background, light or dark; switch it off for clean flat lettering on a plain area. Small text in a corner works as a text watermark - to put a logo or picture on the GIF instead, use the /add-image-to-gif/ tool, which has the same handles.
