Drop a photo and the background remover finds the subject - a person, a pet, a product on a table, a car on the street - and deletes everything else in the image. There is nothing to trace and no color to pick: the cut-out appears on a checkerboard within a few seconds, ready to download as a transparent PNG. It is the quick way to get a product shot onto a clean page, a portrait onto a slide, a logo photo onto a t-shirt mockup or a pet onto a birthday card. Hold the compare button under the picture (or press B) to see the original again, and use the Edge slider if the outline needs to sit a little tighter or a little looser.
Most background removers work on a small copy of the picture and stretch the result, which is why a large photo often comes back with a soft, smeary outline that still carries a rim of the old background. This one finds the subject on a small copy too, but it then fits the outline to the photo's own full-size pixels, so the edge lands where the real edge is - on a 24 megapixel photo as well as on a small one. The download is always the photo's original size, never a reduced preview. Edge set to "Trim more" pulls the outline inward to drop a leftover halo; "Keep more" pushes it outward to save fine hair or fur.
Transparent is the default: the file is a PNG with a real alpha channel that drops straight onto any page, slide or design. Switch New background to Color and choose any color with the color picker instead - white for a marketplace listing or an ID-style portrait, a brand color for a banner. With a color behind the subject the picture can also be saved as a JPG, which is much smaller. WebP keeps transparency at a smaller size than PNG. The picture can be copied to the clipboard, and shared directly on a phone.

Background removal is usually a server job: the photo is uploaded, processed somewhere else and sent back, which means a portrait, a child's picture or an unreleased product sits on someone else's machine.
