Convert an image to text in the browser: drop a screenshot, a photo of a page or a scanned letter and the text in it appears in a box under the picture, ready to copy. Every word the reader found is boxed on the image, so you can see at a glance what it caught and what it missed; words it was unsure about get an amber box instead of a blue one. The text box is editable - fix a misread letter before you press Copy text or Download .txt. Pick the Text language first for anything that is not English: the reader for that language loads the first time you choose it and the pictures are read again.
Select a whole batch of images, or add more with the plus tile, and they are read one after another. Tap a thumbnail to see its text and word boxes. Download .txt saves the text of every picture in one file, each under its file name, which is handy for a stack of receipts, slides or book pages. Paste works too: copy a screenshot and press Ctrl+V on the page.
Small text is enlarged and the picture is turned to gray before it is read, and light text on a dark background is flipped, so screenshots of dark-mode apps read as well as printed pages. What still helps: a straight, sharp, evenly lit shot, text that fills a good part of the frame, and the right language. Handwriting is hit and miss, and reading data out of charts or extracting information from a table gives you the words, not the structure. To pull QR codes rather than words out of a picture, use /qr-scanner/; to save the pictures on a web page, use /image-extractor/.
Scanned letters, bills and ID cards are exactly the pictures you would rather not send to a stranger's server. Here the text reader runs inside your browser: the images and the text never leave your device, and nothing is stored after you close the page.

Blurry or tilted photos, decorative fonts, handwriting and very low contrast confuse any text reader. The words in amber boxes are the ones it was least sure about - check those first and correct them in the text box.
Line breaks and paragraphs are kept, so lists and short blocks come out in order. Tables and columns come out as plain lines of text, not as a spreadsheet.
