Convert a photo to a line drawing: the tool traces the outlines in your picture and draws them as clean black lines on white, the way a pen sketch or a colouring page looks, with no shading. Three sliders shape it. Detail decides how much fine texture becomes a line: turn it down for a simple outline drawing with only the big shapes, up for hair, fabric and leaves. Lines sets how faint an edge still gets drawn - fewer lines for a bold minimal outline, more for a busy sketch. Line width thickens the strokes from a hairline to a marker. A switch flips it to white lines on black.
This is a line art converter, not a pencil or charcoal effect: every pixel of the result is either ink or paper, which is what you want for a colouring page, an embroidery or tattoo stencil, a laser engraving, a logo trace, a comic panel or a diagram made from a photo. The lines come from a Canny edge detector - it keeps one crisp line per edge and joins faint segments to the strong ones they belong to, so outlines stay continuous instead of breaking into speckle. The result downloads as PNG by default - a two-colour drawing compresses to a small file and stays perfectly sharp - or as JPG or WebP from the format menu, at the full size of the original photo. Copy it to the clipboard to paste into a document or a drawing app, or share it straight from a phone. The details card on the picture reports the image size, how much of the picture is line, and the settings used, so a look you like can be repeated.
The photo never leaves your device: the edge detection and the drawing run in your browser on your own processor, and the line drawing is written to a file on your device when you download it. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.
Pictures with a clear subject against a plain or blurred background, good contrast and even light. A face lit from one side, a product on a table or a building against the sky trace cleanly; a busy scene with foliage or patterned fabric turns into a thicket of lines - lower Detail until only the shapes remain.
Lower Detail first, which smooths texture away before any line is looked for, then lower Lines until only the strong edges remain. Raise Line width to 3 or 4 px for a bold outline that reads well small or on a stencil.
Yes - that is the default look: black lines on white with nothing in between. Use a lower Detail setting for children's colouring pages so the regions are large, and a wider line so they print clearly.
No. The image stays in the browser tab on your device; the outline is computed there and downloaded from there. Closing the tab removes it.
