Renaming a PDF sounds trivial until the file is on a phone, arrives in a chat under a name like document(3).pdf, or comes as a stack of forty scans that all need the same prefix. This PDF name changer handles all of that in the browser: select one PDF or many, type the name you want, and download the file under its new name. The contents are not touched - not re-saved, not compressed, not re-ordered - only the name the file carries changes, so a signed contract stays byte-for-byte the document that was signed. Every new name is previewed in the list before you download, and each row has its own save button if you want one file at a time.
Rename by offers four schemes. Name gives one file the name you type, and a batch that name plus a counter. Number builds scan-01, scan-02 and so on from a base name and a start number, padded so files sort correctly. Date names each file with a prefix and either today's date or the file's own modified date, in ISO, day-month-year or compact form - the right scheme for receipts and statements. Add text keeps the original names and puts your text before or after them, for the -signed, -final or DRAFT- convention. If two files would end up with the same name, the second gets -2 and the third -3, so nothing in a batch overwrites anything else.
One PDF downloads directly under its new name. A batch downloads as a single ZIP that unpacks into the renamed files, or on a phone, where browsers allow only one download per tap, you tap the save button on each row instead. The Add button adds more PDFs to the list without starting over.
PDFs are contracts, statements, medical letters and ID scans, and a rename tool has no business reading them. Here the file is never uploaded: the browser only reads its name and size to build the list, and the download is the same bytes handed back under a new name. Closing the tab leaves nothing behind.
No. The file's bytes are passed through unchanged, so page content, form fields, signatures, bookmarks and the document's internal title all stay as they were. Only the file name changes. If you need to change the title a PDF reader shows in its tab, that is a metadata field inside the file and needs a PDF editor.
Yes. Select several files or drop them together; the list shows every file with its new name. Use Number for a sequence, Date for date-stamped names, or Add text to give them all the same prefix or suffix, then download the ZIP.
Slashes, colons, question marks, quotes and a few other characters are not allowed in file names on Windows, macOS or Android, so they are replaced with a hyphen before the name is used. Everything else, including spaces and accented letters, is kept.
Open the ZIP with the built-in unzipper on your system - double-click on Windows and macOS, tap on Android and iOS - and the renamed PDFs are inside. If you would rather save them one by one, tap the save button on each row instead of the main button.
