Every Frame, Same Timing

The tool decodes every frame of the animation, rotates each one on a canvas and encodes them back into a GIF with the same frame delays, the same loop setting and the same transparent areas. Nothing is cropped and nothing is dropped, so the rotated GIF plays exactly as long as the original. To mirror a GIF instead of turning it, use the /flip-gif/ tool.

Quality

A GIF holds at most 256 colours per frame, and rotating cannot add or lose any of them, but re-encoding writes one shared palette for the whole animation, so a GIF with wildly different colours from frame to frame may shift a shade or two. Pixels are moved, never resampled: a 90 or 180 degree turn maps every pixel onto exactly one pixel, so lines stay crisp.

No pixels are resampled - each one moves to exactly one new position. The animation is re-encoded with one shared palette, which is invisible on almost every GIF.

Can I rotate by an angle other than 90 degrees?

Not here: free angles would need the corners cropped or padded and the pixels resampled on every frame. Quarter turns and a half turn cover sideways and upside-down GIFs, which is what this tool is for.

Will the animation still loop?

Yes. The loop setting, the frame delays and any transparent areas are carried over unchanged.

Is my GIF uploaded to a server?
