A funnel chart follows people through the steps of a process and shows how many are left at each: visitors, sign-ups, trials, purchases; applicants, interviews, offers, hires. Type the stages in order, top to bottom, with a number for each. Every stage is drawn as a band whose width matches its number, narrowing into the next, and the drop between two bands is the loss at that step.
Each stage below the first shows its number and its percentage of the first stage, so a funnel from 12,000 visitors to 1,100 buyers reads as 9.2% without a calculator. The labels sit inside the band while they fit and move to the right of narrow stages, so small numbers stay readable. Colours come from six palettes, and every stage's swatch can be changed.
Copy two columns from a spreadsheet or your analytics export into the top-left cell, or drop a CSV file on the page. To show where the people who left went instead, a Sankey diagram draws every flow; for plain amounts per step, a bar graph works too. All types are on the chart maker.
