The sound is turned around with the picture, so speech comes out backwards and a splash runs in reverse; choose Mute instead and the reversed clip goes out silent.
Reverse plays the whole clip backwards once. Boomerang plays it forward and then backwards in one file, the back-and-forth loop that reads well on a feed - a wave that breaks and un-breaks, a jump that lands and takes off again. A boomerang is about twice as long as the clip you started with, and it neither repeats the turning frame nor the first one, so it loops cleanly when a player is set to repeat.
Rewind effects are the obvious one: water pouring back into the glass, a broken thing assembling itself, someone walking backwards out of the room. The trick also makes ordinary footage usable - a shot that ends well but starts badly can be run the other way, and a slow push in becomes a slow pull out. This video reverser keeps the original frame size and frame rate, so the result cuts straight back into whatever you are editing.
Reversing is not a filter; the whole clip has to be read before its last frame can be written first. This page demuxes the video, decodes it from the end in groups of frames, and re-encodes them in reverse with WebCodecs, the video machinery built into modern browsers - the same engine behind the Video Cropper and Add Audio to Video. Long clips are written straight to disk as they are made. A very long video can still run out of room, because every frame of it has to pass through memory; if that happens, cut the part you want first. There is no fixed limit, but the whole clip has to fit through your device's memory, so a few minutes is comfortable on a phone and longer clips need a desktop. If a video is too long the page says so rather than failing silently.
