Sepia is the warm brown of photographs from a century ago, and it still says "old" and "timeless" at a glance. This sepia effect gives any photo that tone in the browser: the picture's light and shade are kept and its colours are replaced by a brown gradient - deep brown in the shadows, a warm tan in the midtones, cream in the highlights. Set the intensity for a full conversion or a light tint, and add fade for a print that has sat in the sun. The download is the original resolution with the tone applied; nothing is uploaded. Real sepia prints were toned with a chemical that turned the silver of a black and white print brown, which also made them last longer - the reason so many old photographs are brown. The effect here follows that: near-black brown shadows, a warm tan middle, cream highlights, mapped onto the photo's own light and shade so the detail stays where it was.
Intensity mixes the toned picture with the original, so at 50 percent a colour photo becomes a warm, slightly desaturated version of itself rather than a full sepia - a look that works for social posts and backgrounds. Fade raises the shadow tone toward the midtone: at 0 the darkest parts stay near black, at 100 nothing in the picture is darker than a medium brown, the way a faded print looks. For film grain, a soft glow and a vignette on top of the tone, the vintage effect adds those; for a plain grayscale, the black and white converter is the one, and for any two colours of your own choice, the duotone effect.
