This symmetric image maker turns any photo into a pattern with perfect symmetry. Kaleidoscope, the default, repeats one slice of the picture around the centre like the mirrors in a real kaleidoscope tube: choose 6, 8, 12 or 16 Segments and every other slice is mirrored, so the pattern closes into a mandala with no seams. A city street seen from above becomes a star-shaped ornament, a flower bed becomes a rose window, a forest becomes lace. It is a quick way to make a mandala for a phone wallpaper, a pattern for fabric or a print, or an album cover from an ordinary snapshot.
The pattern depends on which part of the photo sits under the mirrors, and that is the part you control. Drag the picture to move the photo under them - the pattern changes as you go, so keep dragging until something catches your eye. Rotate turns the mirrors over the photo, and Zoom brings the slice closer or pushes it away, so a small detail can fill the whole mandala. Where the pattern reaches past the edge of your photo, the picture is mirrored back at its edge, so there are never empty corners.
For a plain symmetrical picture, 2-way mirrors one half of the photo onto the other: a symmetrical face, a building made perfectly even, a reflection-style image. Set Rotate to 90° for top and bottom instead of left and right, or 180° to keep the other half. 4-way mirrors one quarter into all four corners. If you only need to flip a picture or set it beside its reflection, Mirror Image is the simpler tool.
The download is folded again from your original photo at full resolution, so the pattern stays sharp for printing. Save it as PNG, JPG or WebP; a JPG or WebP you upload comes back in the same format by default. You can also copy the result to the clipboard, or share it straight from your phone.
A symmetrical face is made from a real face, and the photos people try this on are often their own portraits. Everything happens in your browser: the photo is never uploaded, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
Open the photo and choose 2-way. The left half is mirrored onto the right; drag the picture sideways to move the mirror line to the spot you want, for example the middle of a face, then download.
Choose Kaleidoscope, pick the number of Segments, then drag the picture and move the Rotate and Zoom sliders until you like the pattern. More segments give a finer, rounder mandala; 6 gives the classic kaleidoscope star.
There is none in the maths: 4-way is two mirrors at right angles, the simplest kaleidoscope. The Segments choice starts at 6 because that is where the round mandala look begins.
