Drop a video on the page and a strip of its frames appears under the player. Drag the white handle on the left to where the clip should start and the one on the right to where it should end: the video shows the exact frame each handle is on, so you can find the moment someone starts talking or the last frame before the camera shakes. Press play to watch only the part you keep, then press Trim video and download it. It works as a free online video cutter, without downloading an app: the quick way to cut the dead seconds off the start of a phone clip, keep one moment from a long screen recording, shorten a video to fit a status or a story, or cut an MP4 down before you send it.
Next to the strip you can type the start and end times, like 0:12.40 or 1:05:30 for a long recording, and the handles jump there. Every time lands on a real frame of the video, and the clip you download starts on the first frame you chose and ends on the last one, with no extra frame at either end. On a keyboard, the arrow keys step the playhead one frame at a time, I sets the start and O sets the end at the playhead, and space plays or pauses.
A video is stored as keyframes, full pictures every second or two, with the frames in between saved as changes. When your cut starts on a keyframe, the video trimmer copies that part of the file as it is: nothing is decoded or compressed again, so a trim of a long 4K clip is done in seconds and looks exactly like the original. The page tells you before you press the button whether your cut is a fast one, and a Snap button moves the handles to the nearest keyframes when you would rather have speed than one exact frame. A cut anywhere else is still exact: the part is re-encoded from the frame you chose, which takes longer and can change the quality slightly. The sound is kept either way, cut to the same part.
An MP4 comes back as an MP4 and a WebM as a WebM. A MOV from an iPhone or a camera is saved as an MP4, the same picture in a file type that plays almost everywhere. For a WebM only a cut from the very start is copied as it is; other cuts are re-encoded. Want to change the picture rather than its length? The video cropper cuts the frame to a new shape, remove audio from video silences a clip, and extract audio from video saves only its sound as MP3, M4A or WAV. For animated GIFs, trim a GIF does the same job frame by frame.
Your video never leaves your device. The browser reads the file, cuts it and hands the trimmed copy back to you, with no upload, no account, no watermark and no file size limit set by a server. On Chrome and Edge on a computer the trimmed video can be written straight to the folder you choose, so even a very large recording does not have to fit in memory.
Not when the cut starts on a keyframe: that part of the video is copied as it is, frame for frame. A cut that starts between keyframes is re-encoded from the exact frame you picked, which can change the quality slightly. The page tells you which one you will get, and the Snap button moves the cut to the nearest keyframes.
Leave the left handle at the start and drag the right handle back to where the video should stop, or type the end time. A cut that keeps the beginning and only removes the end is usually a fast one, copied without re-encoding.
This tool keeps one part: everything between the two handles. To remove a part from the middle, trim the first half and the second half as two clips and join them with the merge videos tool.
