Manuscript paper is the one thing a musician never has when the idea arrives. This staff paper generator prints it - musical staff sheets to download or print off straight away: blank sheet music with 6, 8, 10 or 12 five-line staves spread evenly down the page, in black, blue or a grey that stays behind pencil, on A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal or Tabloid. Ten staves on A4 is the classic manuscript book; six or eight leave room for lyrics and chord symbols between the systems; twelve is the dense sheet for sketching. Switch the layout to Grand staff and the staves come in pairs joined by a system line and a bracket, which is the piano, harp and organ format - the count is then systems per page, six of them on a portrait A4. Clefs, bar lines and time signatures are left for you to write, so the same sheet serves treble, bass, alto and percussion.
Staff lines are 2 mm apart here (an 8 mm staff), the spacing of published manuscript paper and the size a hand-written notehead fits. The PDF is drawn as vectors in millimetres with the sheet size in its page box, so it prints crisp on any printer and exact when the print dialog is set to actual size (100%, not "fit to page"). The PNG and JPG are rendered at 300 DPI (200 on A3 and Tabloid) and carry that resolution in the file. The Print button opens the print dialog with the paper already set. Pages puts up to 20 identical sheets into one PDF and one print run; the PNG and JPG are always a single sheet.
The same engine draws the rest of the set - graph paper in any grid, 5 mm, 1 cm, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, 1 inch, 10 per inch, dot grid, isometric, polar graph paper, lined paper and blank sudoku grids - every one a vector PDF at true size. They are all listed on the printable paper page.
The staves are drawn on your device and the PDF is written by the page itself. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and the page keeps working offline once loaded.
Choose 6, 8, 10 or 12; they are spread evenly between the margins whatever the paper size, so 12 staves on A5 are simply closer together than 12 on A4. Ten on A4 or Letter matches the common manuscript books. In grand staff layout the number is systems, each of two staves.
Staff paper is single five-line staves, one instrument or voice per line. Grand staff paper pairs two staves with a bracket - treble and bass for piano, harp and organ. The Layout control switches between the two; clefs are not printed so either can be used for any instrument.
