Inch squares are the grid you can see from across the room: the early-years sheet for writing big letters and numbers, the template for cutting one-inch tiles and mosaic pieces, the layout paper for a quilt at one inch to the block, the map for a tabletop game where a square is five feet, the poster grid for enlarging a drawing square by square. This page prints it (1inch grid paper, if you typed it that way): one inch squares on Letter, Legal, Tabloid, A4, A3 or A5, portrait or landscape, in faint grey through black, blue or green. With the margin off a Letter sheet holds exactly 8 by 11 squares, because 8.5 by 11 inches leaves half an inch to share between the edges; with the 10 mm margin on it is 7 by 10. A heavier line every 2 or 4 squares divides the sheet into blocks.
Inch paper is often used as a ruler substitute, so the squares have to be honest. The PDF is drawn as vectors with the sheet size in its page box: on actual size (100%, not "fit to page") a square is 25.4 mm on paper. PNG and JPG exports are rendered at 300 DPI (200 on Tabloid and A3) and carry that resolution in the file, so an image editor or word processor that honours it places them at true size. The Print button opens the print dialog with the sheet already set to the chosen paper. Pages puts up to 20 identical sheets into one PDF and one print run; the PNG and JPG are always a single sheet.
Tabloid (11 by 17 inches) holds 10 by 16 squares inside the margin, A3 holds 10 by 15, and a landscape sheet of either gives a wide plan. For a grid larger than any printer, print several sheets with the margin off and tape them: the squares run to the edge, so the pattern continues across the join.

8 across and 11 down with the margin off - the sheet is 8.5 by 11 inches, so the grid is centred with a quarter inch spare at each side. With the default 10 mm margin it is 7 by 10 whole squares. A4 holds 7 by 10 with the margin and 8 by 11 without, the last row and column slightly short.
Roughly, yes: printed at actual size each line is an inch from the next, and the heavier line every 2 or 4 squares gives the larger marks. Check the first print with a real ruler; if one square measures an inch, they all do.
